Re: [gatortalk] Will Mizzou be Muschamps Waterloo?

I agree. I don't think his job is in jeopardy this year, even if we lose more than we expected. But he really does need to change his offensive philosophy or we'll never win the big ones. I was hopeful that he would bring in Pease and do like SOS did with his defensive coordinators... just turn the offense over to him and let him run it. But it's clear that he is calling the shots on offense too. You can tell by the number of times Pease has answered questions about the offense by saying the reporter will have to ask the HC. The irony is that, when it comes to defense, he's not at all about 'just win the game'. He is intense about his defense always performing to the highest caliber and never allowing points. But when it comes to offense, he isn't seeking excellence, he is just seeking to squeak by with a win. I would rather see any coach, at all times, seek to have his offense score every time they get the ball. If you're up by 14, another score secures your win more reliably than does burning clock. And, if your offense never gets a chance to practice scoring prolifically, then they won't know how to when they need to. I really like Muschamp, and I do not, in any way, think that he's another Zook. I hope he is successful here, and stays a long time, but he must come to respect the need for a powerful offense or he won't do either one. If I had to guess, I believe he will learn from his mistakes, that he will learn to see the value in a powerful offense, and that he will ultimately have a lot of success here. It just won't be this year.
