I don't think that we have a dominant offensive line. I don't know why. We seem to make it a recruiting priority every year, but it has not recovered as quickly as the talent at other positions.
I like Harrison. That's about it.
That said, the LSU game was as loud as any game at Florida Field. Our lineman could not hear whenever we got close to the red zone.
Our coaches remedy was the tapping thing. Not only did that mess out our left Guard, who had back to back penalties as a result, I believe that LSU's defense could read it.
Play the game at home, the crowd is quiet, the defense can't time the snap and we don't get drive-killing penalties.
Somehow I don't think that the Mizzou crowd will be as loud this Saturday at 11 a.m. and 41 degrees and our offense ought to perform more smoothly.
Overall, so far this year:
1. I am pleased with the production that Joker has obtained out of our Junior and Senior receivers that were non-factors before this year.
2. I am not sure about Brent Pease's ability as an OC. Maybe Wayne Peace is available.
3. I think that Matt Jones's performance against FSU in the second half came because he had fresh legs and the FSU defense was tired. I think that we all read to much into that performance, and he is not ever going to be a star back.
4. Does our punter have an undisclosed injury? That is the only explanation that makes sense.
5. We need help on the OL. Everyone looks like a star when they have plenty of time to throw. I am pleased with the manner in which Murphy has stepped out of tackles and thrown on the run. I just wish he didn't have to so frequently. Like Jay, I saw 2 or 3 plays with WRs wide open downfield, but Murphy had no time to see them.
6. Still cautiously optimistic about Taylor. I watched him against the one real strong team on ESPN last year. He runs low to the ground, almost at an angle. The first tackler rarely brings him down. Given our OL's woes, that could be the asset we need more than anything. Emmitt's first year he didn't have much of a line, but seemed to wriggle through for extra yardage every play. I saw a little of that Saturday in Taylor.
