--Iowa game during the Zook era? That's the most horrendous Outback bowl I can think of.I know my voice was very scratchy yesterday. It's coming back today. :-)
Sent From Shane's iPhoneGo Gators! & Skål Vikes! Thanks for the great report, Oliver and Shane. You did a fine job with the cheering too. I'm sure your support made the difference there at the end. It's great that your first bowl game was a Gator victory, Shane. Unfortunately, I've been to some not so great Gator bowl games. My husband says he will never go to the Outback Bowl again.Helen--On Mon, Jan 5, 2015 at 1:30 PM, Shane Ford <goufgators@bellsouth.net> wrote:To add, it was the first time that I've come over to your house in the dark while sober, and all the streets look the same in your neighborhood. :-). I sure hate stopping and asking for directions.I had never been to Legion Field before and I pray that was my last time EVER. What a pit! Gray lady my butt... As I said earlier, I would never live in Birmingham so no threats from me.Yes, it rained quite a bit in the 1st half and was fairly pleasant weather wise after the half time show. It even warmed up nicely in the 2nd half. I even managed to stay fairly dry underneath my poncho. The game was nicely played by the defense. The offense played better in the first half, but still reminded me why we all wanted Muschamp gone.I'm still not sold in Treon as QB, but we'll see how much he improves by Spring Ball. The shouts and chants were hilarious when Driskel entered the game. We heard everything from "Wildcat!" to "expletive, there goes the game!" If it wasn't so true and hurt so much, it wouldn't have been funny. I feel bad for Driskel, because he's definitely taken The high road through all of this, and been royally screwed by our past coaching staff. I know every player doesn't work out, but there's no way that he is that bad of a QB! I wish him the best at Louisiana Tech. The crowd was definitely more Gators then Pirates! The Gators fans around us were all very nice and we had a great time with them. We were able to high-five quite a bit in the first half. ;-). Not so much in the second half. :-(The Pirates fans there were funny! Most thought they were going to win the game. After seeing our past two seasons played out, one can certainly understand why they thought that. I know we were definitely worried in the 4th quarter. Thankfully our defense was able to stop them when it mattered most and help us out with the win. We will sure miss Dante Fowler next year. His leadership was apparent in that game!I hate to say this but after the past 2 seasons, I am thankful that Gator football is over for a while, just so I can get my blood pressure back down.I would definitely agree that I had a good time. This was my first bowl game that I've ever been to in person. I hope not my last!Go Gators!!!!!SHANE

Ok, it's time for a brief review of our trip to Birmingham:
Shane, you're welcome to add to this story. I'm only stating the facts as I would like to remember them.
We started out at 6:15ish after I watched Shane pass by my house two or three times from the back yard.
Saw our first Gator car on I65 before we even crossed through Nashville.
Arrived at the stadium about an hour before the game. Our tickets were on the ECU side, so we missed McElwain stalking the parking lot.
The parking lot was a muddy pit. Yes, the neighborhood around Legion Field is still a slum, just like I remembered it the last time I was there for the second SEC Championship game.
The stadium, the "Gray Lady" is a rusted out hulk. I can't believe it isn't condemned. You can still see the steel beams from the former upper deck that had to be removed before it fell in on somebody. If I lived in Birmingham, I'd be ashamed of the place.
It rained off and on throughout the game, not much of a problem though.
Although we were sitting on the Pirates side, we were right in the middle of a bunch of Gator fans. They were all a friendly, jovial group. The stadium was about 75% filled with Gators.
Considering the weather, 30,000 plus wasn't a bad crowd.
I was nervous for the start of the game and, stayed that way until we got up 21-7. Of course, it got a little dicey again as the second half wore on.
That made for a good game, though. Lots of fun, no one wanted to leave early.
A few jeers when Driskel came in. I'm glad he didn't throw an interception or fumble. The first down with about 1:00 to go helped everyone's demeanor.
After the game, we hit the road right away because what looked like the storm of the century was bearing down on I65. Got home at about 6:45, watched the replay on the SEC network.
Overall, a great experience. It's much more fun driving home with a win…
