1. Notice that the same coach called Muschamp the devil as well. The quote was that Muschamp has the same DNA as Saban. Since there can only be one "the devil," it would seem that that Davis is calling him a devil, or like a devil, and using that to show how demanding Muschamp is. Overall, it seems an attempt to complement Muschamp, and not a direct shot at Saban.
2. We could talk about how the vast proliferation of radio talk shows and multiple cable sports channels has broadened the definition of what is truly news into what was formerly known as gossip. An assistant coach's comments at a booster function aren't news, short of confessing to recruiting violations.
