Florida got a long-awaited commitment from massive offensive lineman Trenton Brown on Sunday.
Florida's football banquet this weekend was supposed to be a big recruiting event, perhaps the Gators' last until the calendar rolled over from 2012 to 2013. Trenton Brown committing to Florida, as he first tweeted late Saturday night, makes it big all by himself, even though he wasn't on campus for the event.
Brown, a 6'8", 340-pound JUCO offensive tackle from Georgia Military College, gives Florida one of its largest offensive linemen since Max Starks and Marcus Gilbert, and a potentially dominant bookend tackle. Brown was committed to Georgia this fall, but decommitted over a spat with the Dawgs' coaches, and UGA's loss is UF's gain.
Brown should compete with D.J. Humphries for the left tackle slot that Xavier Nixon will vacate after the 2012-13 season, and could be a huge asset in Florida's many unbalanced line packages if he is able to stay mobile at his size.
Brown will enter Florida as a sophomore in January and be eligible for spring practice.
