There are many reasons I hate Georgia.
One in particular is the 1942 Florida Georgia game.
World War II was in its darkest days. U-Boats were sinking ships within sight of Jacksonville Beach.
Most of the Gators players had gone off to fight for their country.
Florida did field a team, though and tried to make a season of it. This inexperienced team had a 3-4 record coming in to the game.
Georgia, on the other hand, had fielded a team laden with draft deferments. These were ROTC candidates looking to get an officer’s commission.
Georgia scored 75 points that afternoon, never letting up because they were trying to pad the record of Frank Sinkwich, their Heisman Trophy candidate.
75 points! Florida didn’t even field a team in 1943. Too many war losses.
And, Georgia fans were getting pissy when Steve Spurrier’s Gators scored 52 on them at their field in 1995.
Just for the record Danny Wuerffel was pulled after the 3rd quarter.
This is it! Georgia week! That Jacksonville Game, as they like to call it. We call it Swamp II. Let’s stomp their doggy butts!!
