I'm just back from the Pinellas County Gator Club kickoff party. Pat Dooley was the main speaker, but Scot Brantley chimed in quite a bit on the Q&A. I was most interested in what Brantley had to say as he has had a chance to attend some of the closed practices. He was particularly enthused about the offensive and defensive lines, which he said will be much improved, and predicted Jacoby Brisset would get the starting nod. They both expect the team to be better this year and both were very upbeat about the strength and conditioning program and about Brent Pease. Scot said we're going to have a power running game a la Fred Taylor days. Big concern remains whether any of the receivers will step up and be playmakers.
Attendance was way down from last year. Lousy weather may have had something to do with it, but there is definitely less excitement than in the past. However, I got my tickets in the mail yesterday and I'm excited!
Meeting was at Gators Cafe http://gatorscafe.com/ in Treasure Island. It's loaded with Gator memorabilia so it's always a trip down memory lane to go in there. If you ever happen to find yourself on the Pinellas beaches, it's worth it to stop in and check out the upstairs rooms.
