I think Jerry’s correct.  The game would only pit the SEC champ against the Big 12 champ if *neither* of them were already in the ‘Final Four.’  Seems odd that that could ever happen. 

 

But what if the SEC champ is in the ‘final four’ and the Big 12 champ isn’t?  Then this new bowl game would be the SEC #2 (however they figure that) vs. the Big 12 champ.  But the Capital One Bowl, I think, already has dibs on SEC #2, doesn’t it?  So how could SEC #2 go to both bowls?

 

Sounds like a mess.

This is not how I read the article.  There was an out for the champion if the Champion was in the four team playoff.  Thus my comment about the Runner-up or second runner-up playing the game since I assumed that we would have one or two teams in the four-team playoff.

This will be a quarter-final game. Winner goes to the 4 team playoff. 

Just guessing, but that's the only logic.
